Pathophysiology (病理生理学)

Jinan University via XuetangX

Overview

After more than 40 years of unremitting efforts by Prof. Chujie Li, Prof. Daxiang Lu and all the colleagues from the department of Pathophysiology at the university, this course has been developed into a bilingual and a first class blended learning model in Guangdong Province, suitable equally for both domestic and foreign undergraduate students. The pathophysiology subjects on which this course is based formed the key disciplines of health educational training and research in Guangdong Province, and the publication of experimental findings in the Core Journals of China such as the Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology.

Pathophysiology is the scientific discipline that studies the onset, progression, and underlying mechanisms of pathological processes and diseases. The emphasis is place on etiology, pathogenesis, clinical outcome, and the pathophysiological basis of prevention and treatment. Studies of pathophysiology are concerned with the investigation of biological processes that relate directly to disease processes of physical, mental, or psychophysiological conditions and disorders. Thus, pathophysiology serves as a bridge across the basic science and clinical medicine by linking knowledge from different medical disciplines. The content of this course has the following characteristics:

1)Firstly, we review the topics in physiology and biochemistry, and adopt a comparative approach to help students to understand pathological processes correlate.  Furthermore, clinical cases are integrated into the teaching content of each chapter with related conceptual discussions included in the supplementary materials.

2)We not only set up the test questions in each chapter to examine students' understanding and memory of knowledge points, but also create A2 type questions to test students' ability to apply their knowledge and skills. The high level of teaching objectives are achieved by this mean that reflects the "student-centered" teaching philosophy.
