Overview

     Liaoning University's international economic law course has a long history and profound accumulation. It is always a high-quality benchmark course and a leading course in law. In 1980, Liaoning University enrolled a group of full-time undergraduates in law, and set up international economic law as a compulsive course. In 2005, international economic law became the key research direction of the doctoral program of economic law and became the course of the key research base of humanities and social sciences in universities in Liaoning Province. In 2007, the course was selected as a provincial-level excellent course and was selected as a provincial innovation team. In 2008, it was selected as a key discipline of the province, and the law degree was successfully approved by the first batch of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, the course was selected as the National Excellent Course by the Ministry of Education. In 2011, Liaoning University’s international economic law obtained a doctoral degree in first-level disciplines of law. In 2012, it was selected as the first batch of outstanding legal talent bases of the Ministry of Education, and became a provincial quality resource sharing course. In 2015, it was once again selected as a national quality resource sharing course. In 2019, Liaoning University Law was selected as a national first-class major, and the international economic law teaching team was selected as “Liaoning Huangdanian Teacher Team”.

      The course objectives are as follows: First, knowledge objectives: students can accurately grasp the basic principles, concepts, and common sense of international economic law, and fully grasp the international economic law knowledge system. The second is the ability goal: through the combination of lectures and trainings, with the training simulation arbitration, trial, negotiation and other platforms as a platform to cultivate international economic legal awareness, master international economic and trade rules, have the ability to resolve international economic and trade disputes, adapt to economic globalization, advocate the need for One Belt One Road of law talents. The third is the quality goal: to train students to pursue excellence and study hard, to train students to become a socialist successor with an international vision, national feelings and mission.

       There are three key issues in the curriculum and teaching reform. One is how to allow students to clearly and accurately grasp the complex knowledge points of international economic law in a limited class time, and form an international economic legal system that effectively integrates with domestic law; second, how to train students to have awareness of international rule of law and national economic security; the third is the difficulty of teaching content - how to adapt the students’ learning need through diversified teaching activities and multi-level teaching techniques, and to enhance students' ability to actively study and research. 

      In terms of curriculum content and resource construction and application, the teaching content is divided into theory and practice, highlighting the teaching of basic knowledge and training of basic skills. The theoretical part is divided into 6 major modules: International Economic Law, International Trade Law, International Investment Law, International Financial Law, International Tax Law, and International Economic and Trade Dispute Resolution Law, which are specifically broken down into 40 knowledge points. The practical part mainly focuses on contents and fields such as international cargo trading, international cargo transportation, international investment law, WTO dispute settlement, international commercial arbitration As a core course under the national first-class major, it focuses on the accumulation and update of course resources. 

      The course focuses on innovation, high order, and challenge. Students will master a complete knowledge system of international economic law, understand international economic and trade legal rules, and cultivate international economic and trade legal thinking, forming the ability to analyze and resolve international economic and trade disputes.

      The course has a team of high-level teachers led by specially-appointed professors of Changjiang scholars. The team members all study in famous universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. They are members of the Law Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, and the deputy of the International Economic Law Research Society of the Chinese Law Society Chairman, arbitrator of the National Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, leading talent of the National "Ten Thousand People Plan". All have solid theoretical knowledge and great teaching experience.
