Chinese Culture is a cultural course for international students in China pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate (Master’s & PhD) degrees and Chinese language learners. It is also a great lesson for native Chinese college students and anyone interested in Chinese culture.
The book collects the quintessential cultural elements of China, covering topics closely related to the life of ordinary people, such as clothing, food, housing, transportation, social etiquette and cultural beliefs. The content is meticulously selected to ensure an authentic representation of the typical cultural characteristics of China, and aims to inspire international students to take a keen interest in learning and experiencing Chinese culture and better tackle cultural problems in real life.
The core content, rich and with clear focus, is divided into 16 chapters, which fall into six sections: lifestyle, social norms, cultural heritage, sports and leisure, ethnic arts, and cultural beliefs. The pictures and videos incorporated in the course cover a variety of real-life situations and strive to present students with authentic interaction of people. Each section consists of three parts: picture lead-in, teacher explanation and extra-curricular cultural knowledge. The course is designed on the principles of the “teach-experience-apply” teaching model, and is professional, interactive and practical.
This course is selected as "the first-class international course in Zhejiang Province". The textbook for the course is The Overview of Chinese Culture published by Higher Education Press in October 2021. This course is created by the team of Professor Mao Haiying of Ningbo University and represents a preliminary success of the teaching reform project of China Association of Higher Education and the project of international Chinese education research.
