The Making of America -A Critical Approach

WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management via XuetangX

Overview

Language learning is inseparable from the study and research of culture. Understanding the culture of other countries can better promote the deepening of Sinoforeign exchanges and enhance friendship with people of all countries. The new era calls for talents with profound cross cultural literacy. This course is an all English course on American society and culture. It consists of ten chapters : historical development, territory and population, government structure, economic ups and downs, media characteristics, literary classics, higher education, entertainment industry and cultural ramblings. In this course, learners will examine various phenomena of American society and culture, explore the historical context of American society and culture with rational thinking, understand the basic characteristics of modern American civilization, and gain a dynamic and multi dimensional understanding of American society and culture. By examining the culture of other countries, learners deepen their understanding of their own culture in comparison, improve their sensitivity to cultural differences, tolerance and flexibility in dealing with cultural differences. This course pays attention to the development of language and thinking, and cultivates learner  language expression ability, cross cultural communication ability and critical thinking ability in the form of inspiration discussion and practice.
