This course covers diverse topics with rich cultural connotation. There are 13 sections in total, including four modules: Ningbo Landscape, A Bite of Ningbo, Ningbo Commercial Group and Ningbo Cultural Representatives. Three Ningbo representative cultural knowledge units are selected for each module and explained in English with bilingual subtitles. Ningbo Sanjiangkou Area, the Old Bund, Dongqian Lake, the Moon Lake, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and other cultural landmarks are covered; Ningbo Tangyuan (glutinous rice ball), Ningbo rice cake, Ningbo seafood specialty, Dragon and Phoenix Cake, crystal oil bun and other representative dishes as well as their cultural connotation are introduced; the development of Ningbo Commercial Group, its representatives and stories, as well as Ningbobang spirit are shown here; Hemudu Neolithic culture, East Zhejiang School, Wang Yangming School, Tianyi Pavilion culture and other humanistic representatives highlight the regional characteristics and rich cultural accumulation of Ningbo.
With integration of both language and culture, this course leads students to appreciate Ningbo landscape, Ningbo specialty, Ningbo Commercial Group and Ningbo cultural representatives. At the same time, it integrates relevant language learning, in order to cultivate students’ cultural confidence, enrich students' basic knowledge of tourism, improve their practical language skills, and enhance their cognition of China's tourism culture. To be able to spread Chinese tourism knowledge in English in international exchanges, so that the world can understand Ningbo and China.
