Overview

The course of “Appreciation of Traditional Chinese Ceramic Arts” is developed by Jingdezhen Ceramic University, the only university featuring ceramic arts in the world. This course aims to introduce the traditional Chinese ceramic arts with its emphasis on the history of Chinese ceramic arts and the appreciation of some exquisite ceramics. The faculty of the course includes some renowned ceramic artists in China and professors of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, who present appealing lectures and their unique ceramic crafts. In addition to traditional Chinese ceramic arts, some contemporary ceramic works are also presented so that you could have an overall understanding of Chinese ceramics.

 

    The main contents of the course include the Chinese ceramic history, ceramics production crafts, major kilns of China and influential ceramic types in China. Each episode consists of cultural background, ceramic characteristics, production process and appreciation of works.

    In specific, our contents include Chinese ceramic history, earthen sculpture of Qin and Han Dynasties, tri-colored glazed pottery of Tang Dynasty, major kilns of Song Dynasty, blue and white porcelains, traditional ceramics production crafts of Jingdezhen, Doucai, Wucai and Gucai, Fencai, Xincai, color glaze, ceramic sculpture and purple clay teapots.
