This English course is intended for graduate students of science and engineering.
There are 8 units of different themes:
Unit 1 language and science
Unit 2 economics and management
Unit 3 tradition and innovation
Unit 4 ecological protection
Unit 5 language and culture
Unit 6 work and life
Unit 7 feature story
Unit 8 education and growth
In each unit, one text for intensive reading and two other theme-related texts for extensive reading are provided. These reading texts present inspiring topics for discussion and communication in English. There are 8 modules of learning in each unit, providing listening, reading, writing and translating exercises. These modules are designed for students to consolidate their English language foundation for future professional study.
At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
enlarge their vocabulary,
do better in critical reading,
acquire translation skills,
enjoy inclusive appreciation of different cultures,
engage in critical thinking and informed communication.
