ABOUT THE COURSE:Research in Tourism & Hospitality Management is gaining attention of academic community and market researchers. The interdisciplinary nature of tourism and hospitality research attracts researchers from varying academic backgrounds such as Engineering, Management, Humanities or even from other disciplines. However, many students or practitioners face difficulties at various stages to design their researches appropriately. This course aims to balance the theoretical content as well as the applied part of research methodology so that the students could get a better understanding of research methods used worldwide. A step by step learning approach is designed for the ease of students and the a briefing of latest tools used in the research will also help students who opt this course so that students can enter in tourism research with a prepared mannerINTENDED AUDIENCE: This course will benefit for those students search for a 4 credit course in tourism and hospitality as part of 4 years UG programme under NEP or first year PG programme under NEPPREREQUISITES: A student/candidate at the 3rd year/4th year/PG student can enrol this course.

Week 1: Introduction to Research in Tourism & Hospitality-Philosophical background, types of research, nature of research, research process, understanding research philosophies, formulating research topic, generating research ideas, refining research ideas.
Week 2:Types of research (qualitative)- Ethnographic, Phenomenological, Case Study, Grounded Study -appropriate research methods for different areas
Week 3:Types of research (quantitative)- Exploratory, Analytical Research, appropriate research methods, topics and common practices
Week 4:Review of literature: Sources of literature, types of review (SLR, Meta Analysis, Bibliometrics), PRISMA, writing literature review.
Week 5:Population, Sampling: Types of sampling (for qualitative and Quantitative research), Primary data methods of data collection (qualitative-interview, focus group discussion, Participatory research), conducting interviews, FGDs, Field notes, transcriptionWeek 6:Qualitative Data Analysis – Process, Thematic Content Analysis, Qualitative Data Analysis using software- Reporting analysis, interpretation and reporting findings.
Week 7:Quantitative Data Analysis – Designing the scheme of analysis. Frequency Distribution, Descriptive Statistics, Data reduction techniques, Tests of association, Test of relationships
Week 8:Thesis writing Tips for writing thesis. Tips for writing research papers, Journals in Tourism & Hospitality
