Principles of Biochemistry integrates an introduction to the structure of macromolecules and a biochemical approach to cellular function. Topics addressing protein function will include enzyme kinetics, the characterization of major metabolic pathways and their interconnection into tightly regulated networks, and the manipulation of enzymes and pathways with mutations or drugs. An exploration of simple cells (red blood cells) to more complex tissues (muscle and liver) will be used as a framework to discuss the progression in metabolic complexity. Learners will also develop problem solving and analytical skills that are more generally applicable to the life sciences.

Excellent course, but grueling - it's long, it covers a huge swath of material, and it's not easy for someone, like me, with a limited background in chemistry. But it's well worth it. The presentation isn't the snazziest, in most cases, but I learned a great deal and highly recommend it for anyone serious about studying biochem.

Very difficult course. The first unit is relatively easy but this impression is deceptive. The course has many pros that other people said without me. I'll do unpopular thing to name minuses. The main minus that there're big details about certain…

A fantastic introduction to biochemistry. If you've every struggled to understand the basics of biochemistry then this is the course for you. If you just starting to study biochemistry you would have to work a lot in this course, but lectures are just amazing, explanations are clear.

A very good course which make one to know how metabolism of cells takes place .I have been thought metabolism of amino acid , carbohydrates, lipids, enzymology , cell ,bioenergetics, and so many others .I find metabolisms of carbohydrates and fatty acids more simpler than the others because fatty acids can be metabolised in beta oxidation pathway ,omega oxidation pathway, alpha oxidation pathway.for metabolism of carbohydrates one has to know glycolysis ,glyoxyrate,Penrose monophosphate pathway, gluconeogenesis, glycogenesis, feedback pathway,Calvin cycle one has to know how it' works in the body .
Biochemistry is life because it is very interesting course to study . -
Excellent course. However, you need to be motivated to be able to handle it. MCB63X is long, challenging, and requires a lot of work. As you can see from the reviews of people actually completing the course, the weekly workload can get really high. I personally felt like giving up so many times. As it is stated in the course description, the course is designed to be challenging.

As a science I consider the most important to biochemistry since life itself is based on the laws that dictate from the simple to the complex or vice versa.

The best online course I've ever seen! Professor Lander explains everything from basis in form of explaining the path of invention. I only regret it is not actual and lacks the newest inventions. Great course, I recommend.
