With the rapid development of urbanization and rural revitalization in China, vernacular landscape has been gradually overlooked by the public under the impact of modern landscape design’s techniques. Vernacular landscape is not only the surface landscape’s presentation of regional life and culture, but also the unique cultural landscape when human beings need to transform the natural environment within the region for the demand of their production and life. As an imprint of a region, vernacular landscape is the spiritual sustenance of the generations and a region and contributes indelibly to the development of the local culture and regional character. Therefore, it is precious that vernacular landscape becomes an important carrier of the local culture’s inheritance and display.
This course will take you into the vernacular landscape from a new perspective. From the origin of rural landscape, it help students explore the growth of rural landscape stepping into the eastern and western landscape of temporal and spacial tour, and deeply analyse the formation of vernacular landscape and historical context. Flying over the Loess plateau, students can witness the uniqueness of traditional kilns in northern Shaanxi and pass through qinba Pearl experiencing the artistry of Little Jiangnan in northwest China and Changan, 800 li of Qinchuan, and look back at the mystery of The Green moss green trees in Qinling mountains. Students also can explore the charm and momentum of Vernacular landscape pattern and deeply excavate the change and remodeling of Vernacular landscape materials, the connotation and construction way of native plants. To explore and recognize the connotation and wisdom of rural landscape with a new way of thinking and better inherit and protect rural landscape, the course can arouse more people’s interest and perception of rural landscape.
