In this course, you will learn the basic knowledge of ecology and the basic elements, characteristics, structure and functions of urban ecosystem, so as to have a primary understanding of those key ecological theories and urban ecological environment issues, and be able to analyze and interpret urban and rural construction and development issues from the perspective of ecosystem. After the department of theoretical lecture, we will discuss the spatial planning at different scales and apply the corresponding ecological concepts to the planning and design.
At the regional scale, large-scale territorial spatial planning and functional zoning are realized through ecological carrying capacity analysis, ecological sensitivity analysis and land suitability evaluation, delineating the boundaries of urban space, agricultural space and ecological space, and formulating ecological protection strategies for mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes and grasslands. Urban green space can not only improve the environment, but also maintain the balance of carbon and oxygen, improve urban climate, protect biodiversity, and prevent and reduce disasters. We will explain how to use landscape ecology methods to do a green space planning in a large metropolitan area.
At a local scale, we focus on eco-city design, including sponge cities, garden design using low-impact development technologies, and the Eco-communities (settlements), which are key to deal with climate change and energy challenges in the future. China is a multi-ethnic country composed of 56 ethnic groups with a long and profound history. We will dig into the unique ecological wisdom of ethnic minorities and explore the planning and design of ethnic minority settlements (villages) that respect ecological laws and inherit excellent cultural spirits, including the ecological landscape planning of farmland in rural areas with biodiversity conservation as the orientation.
At a small scale, we will talk about a green building design and an courtyard design case.
All teachers of this course are from the School of Architecture, Southwest Minzu University. They have been engaged in the research of urban and rural ecology and environmental planning for a long time and have plentiful scientific research achievements. At the same time, they are all registered urban and rural planners and landscape architects, with abundant practical design experience.
Looking forward to your joining us!
