Overview

Management science and engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University is a national key discipline. It has ranked first in the first-class discipline evaluation twice, and its industrial engineering major is also among the best. As the only school-level first-class course of the School of Management of Xi'an Jiaotong University in the past, systems engineering has now become the platform course of management, the first-class discipline of management science and engineering, and the core course of industrial engineering. It is also the compulsory course in the postgraduate entrance exam for students of management science and engineering. Systems engineering is regarded as an important methodology for management science and engineering, and modern industrial engineering as well.

Systems engineering course of Xi'an Jiaotong University has been in a leading position in China in overall aspects. The textbooks for this course are Systems Engineering (Machinery Industry Press) and Systems Engineering Theory, Methods and Applications (Higher Education Press), edited by Professor Wang Yingluo. Both of them have been awarded the excellent textbooks at or above the provincial and ministerial level. In this course group, Professor Wang Yingluo and other members are well-known experts in management science and engineering, industrial engineering and systems engineering in China. Management and systems engineering course, based on systems engineering and taught by some teachers of this course group (Wang Yingluo, etc.), is also a compulsory course for students majoring in engineering in Central Radio and TV University. It has been broadcast on the Central Education Television Station for more than five years.

As systemic problems get increasingly universal, system management becomes the "commanding height" of the development of management science. This course plays an important and practical role in helping students of management and other related disciplines master systems engineering methodology and system analysis methods, and enhance their ability to analyze, study and solve complex problems in real situations.

This course mainly teaches the thinking methods, working procedures and analytical methods required for the development, operation and transformation of management system problems. The basic content of the course includes the Overview of Systems Engineering (SE), Introduction to Systems Engineering Theory and Methodology, System Model and Modeling, System Simulation Principle and System Dynamics (SD) Method, System Evaluation Method, Decision Analysis Method, Introduction to Examples of SE Application, Qian Xuesen and the Development of Systems Engineering Thinking in China and so on. By learning this course, students can master the basic concepts, ideas and methodological frameworks of systems engineering, and can apply the common model methods of systems engineering to analyze some practical management system problems at the preliminary stage.
