Strengthen your knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering, and discover an approach that organizations, companies, and governments are using to manage ever-changing demands. In this course, you will learn more about systems thinking, architecture, and models. You will examine the key benefits of MBSE. Through an in-depth look at MBSE as a solution, you will examine SysML methodologies and languages. No degree is required. This course is primarily for professionals, college students, and advanced high school students who are interested in gaining introductory knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) software and principles. This course represents a foundational introduction to MBSE, appropriate for learners with a basic knowledge of general engineering concepts and an interest in digital manufacturing and design. To succeed in this course, learners should bring their curiosity about how new developments in technology are shaping the way businesses and entire industries operate. This course has no formal prerequisites. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: • Differentiate between systems and systems of systems. • Use the MBSE approach. • Compare MBD, MBE, and MBSE. • Evaluate system modeling tools and languages.

Syllabus

  • An Introduction to Model-Based Systems Engineering
    • Welcome to Model-Based Systems Engineering! By enrolling in this course, you are joining the many students and professionals who wanted to advance their skillset as they develop a stronger understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts. In the first week of the course, we'll introduce you to the overview and layout of the course. We will also review some foundational concepts related to MBSE. By the end of this module, you will know more about Model-Based Systems. Let's get started!
  • Systems Engineering and MBSE
    • Now that you have explored key concepts relating to systems architecture, you are ready to expand your knowledge of Systems Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering. In the second week of the course, we will examine various types of Systems Engineering such as MBD and MBE and compare them with Model-Based Systems Engineering.
  • iMBSE, Methodology, and an Introduction to System Modeling Languages
    • Now that you have examined MBSE, you are prepared to learn more about Integrated Model-Based System Engineering (iMBSE). In the third week of the course, we will investigate iMBSE, define some related terminology, and introduce you to System Modeling Language.
  • System Modeling Language (SysML)
    • Since you have been introduced to modeling languages, in Week 4 we will focus on SysML. You will learn about SysML versions and diagrams. You will examine the four pillars of SysML and its design workflow process. Finally we will compare SysML to OPM. Throughout our exploration we will apply these concepts to examples.
  • System Modeling Language and Tools and the MBSE Solution
    • In the final week of the course, you will be introduced to ARCADIA and Capella. You will learn more about system modeling tools. You will examine the MBSE solution ROI. To conclude this course, you will take a comprehensive exam on the key concepts that you have learned in the past five weeks.
