The course "Perceive the World through English" are composed of two volumes. The first volume aims to discuss the language acquisition from the rules inside of the language itself in 4 units, 24 lectures totally, introducing some basic linguistic & psychological knowledge & skills of languages and the 2nd language acquisition to all non-language majors, from“getting to know more about languages”to“learning to scientifically acquire languages”, from “treating language learning correctly”to“using languages maturely and beautifully". The second volume aims to explore the outside world in the angle of languages in 10 units, 12 lectures totally, discovering the relationship among languages, human and world in the integration of such disciplines as sociology, ethnology, history, literature, science, education, journalism, diplomacy, aesthetics & philosophy. These two volumes of the course remove the barriers of many aspects between the College English course for non-English majors and the general English course for English majors, make the language teaching & learning in a content-driven mode, and apply the integration of linguistics & other disciplines into College English course. The course is characterized by “the general English course for the public”, combining utility & humanity, philosophy & art, which, under the dual scopes of “New Liberal Arts” and “Ideological and Political Education in the Curriculum”, will greatly enhance the language learners' inner drive of sustainable language learning, emphasize the importance of thinking everything in integrated disciplines, improve the multi-competence of language using from the angle of comparison and that of international problem solving on the stand of China.
