Overview

《Landscape in the Garden -- The Gardening Art of Chinese Classical Garden》based on the art of Chinese classical landscape architecture, and aimed at the students who are interested in Chinese landscape architecture history, Chinese cultural history and Chinese art history from all over the world. The course is not required for prerequisite courses and preparatory knowledge. The course is not only a professional theoretical course, but also a combination course of environmental design and professional landscape design. It is the core course of environmental design, art design, landscape design and architectural design.

The course is based on the landscape architecture historical materials, such as garden records, travel notes, ancient books, paintings and cultural relics. The course tries to find an inheritance mode which the traditional landscape architecture culture can fit in the contemporary college students, and show the unique charm of Chinese classical landscape architecture through treat it in a flexible way. The course analyze and appreciate the beauty of Chinese classical landscape architecture from the perspective of history and aesthetics. The course shows the time history of the techniques of Chinese classical landscape architecture and the evolution of aesthetic ideology based on historical materials.

Through the course study, we will strive to improve students' understanding and cognition of Chinese classical landscape architecture and master the basic gardening techniques of Chinese classical landscape architecture, to improve students' professional knowledge ability and quality, inspire students' ability of site design analysis and critical research thinking, and to guide students to establish correct professional values, inherit the spirit of Chinese landscape architecture culture, and create the contemporary value of Chinese landscape architecture culture.
