This course aims at helping students to understand the theoretical foundation and analytical framework of the contemporary international economy, and strengthening the quantitative and qualitative skills in the area of international economics.
On one hand, we cover a wide variety of theoretical topics such as the determination of international trade patterns, impacts of tariffs and import quota on trade, forms of international business organizations, features of international flow of funds. We also discuss comprehensively functions and risks of international financial markets, determination and prediction of exchange rates, arbitrage strategy with currency derivatives. In addition, we deal with paradigm shift of exchange rate regime, management of exchange rate risks, international capital budgeting decisions confronted by multinational corporations etc.
On the other hand, we incorporate plenty of significant applied topics regarding the Chinese economy and the global economy. For instance, the US-European banking crisis, the internationalization of RMB and De-dollarization, interactions of monetary policies across countries, global financial crisis, digital legal tenders, opening up of China’s capital account, fintech & big data, ESG investment, China’s reform in registered system of IPO. Furthermore, we explore topics in geopolitics and international economy such as trade war & finance war, Russian-Ukraine Crisis etc.
