Hydraulic Structures is; a course designed to teach professional skills to students majoring in water conservancy. This course is both theoretical and practical. This course embraces the design, construction, and management of water conservancy projects. During the course, students will be taught to master the basic structures, working conditions, and working mechanisms of main hydraulic structures, understand the basic design principles, select, make, and size structure models, conduct the analysis and calculation of capacity, carry out the analysis of structural stability, make the analysis and arrangement of scour prevention and seepage control, possess the initial design ability of gravity dams, arch dams, earth dams, sluices, spillways, and hydraulic tunnels, canal structures, and hydro-junctions, use the calculation results got from the design to draw an engineering blueprint, and possess the ability to solve the basic problems of hydraulic structure design. Also, this course will train students to perceive, analyze, and master the operating features, basic structures, and structural compositions and functions of hydraulic structures, improve their design abilities of hydraulic structures and their professional basic skills, and cultivate their professional ethics. This course can not only teach students vocational abilities required for their first jobs such as drawers, design assistants, construction workers, and so on but also help them lay a professional foundation to become structural engineers, supervising engineers, cost engineers, and so on in the future.
