English for Art and Design is developed for English language learners (B1 to C2 according to CEFR Level) who are interested in studying and working in the field of art and design. This course aims to improve learners’language skills and build the knowledge and literacy of art and design. Language teaching, readings, forum discussions, and assessments are adapted to individual level. If one is at a higher English level, there will be more challenging project assignments that one can opt for. This course consists of eight units, Introduction to Chinese Art, Chinese Traditional Painting, Western Painting, the Origin and Development of Modern Design, Modern Genius Designer, Graffiti as Creative Art, how to be a Graphic Designer, and Getting Your First Job. Typically, course participants will watch recorded videos and build vocabulary base and background knowledge of each unit topic before they come to the classroom for the review on linguistic skills and feedback on the selected assignments. To understand discipline discussed in class, students are highly recommended to visit local art exhibits, practice digital design applications and browse recruitment websites of domestic and international companies.
