Overview

Health Qigong has lately become a new member of university physical education courses. It is a traditional national sport which involves physical motions, breathing and mind regulation, a vital helps to promote and spread the humanistic spirit in traditional Chinese culture as an ancient traditional physical exercise. In February 2003, the General Administration of Sport of China authorized Health Qigong as the 97th sport item to be popularized, which is of great significance for the spread of traditional Chinese culture, the enrichment to physical exercising methods and improvement in people’s physical health.

In various traditional Chinese physical exercises, Ba Duan Jin, an ancient Chinese Dao Yin, has been widely spread in the populace for more than a thousand years for owing to its remarkable effect on health, and being easy and safe to be performed, which makes a treasure in traditional Chinese culture of health preservation. Regulating the body, breathing and mind, it plays a significant role with great value in improving students’ overall qualities and developing a mindset for lifelong physical exercising.

This course covers the demonstration of the whole set of movements of Health Qigong Ba Duan Jin, step-by-step descriptions, elaborations of theories and effects. It applies theories to practice, which helps students interpret and practice Ba Duan Jin well.
