ABOUT THE COURSE:Sound is an important form of energy that is encountered by human beings every moment of their lives. It is the human perception and response that makes this sound as “Noise”. With increasing modernization, urbanization and industrialization, the concerns of Noise pollution have increased; hence the knowledge of noise control has become tremendously important. Mechanical systems, although make our life easier, are a major source of noise. Therefore, latest research and technology development is towards Quiet Machine Design. This course will impart fundamental knowledge on the subject of Noise Control in Mechanical Systems. Various stages in noise control namely, the acoustic fundamentals, measurement and analysis of sound signals, instrumentation, standards and guidelines for noise measurement of various machineries, principles and strategies for noise control, passive noise control materials, noise sources in mechanical systems, mechanism of noise and vibration generation in machineries, and case studies of noise control of various machineries, will be described. This course will be very useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, who want to specialize in Machine Design, Structural Design, Dynamics and Vibrations, and Environmental Sciences. The course also holds relevance to various acoustics-based industries, manufacturing and mining industries, industrial power plants, automotive industries, and aerospace industries.INTENDED AUDIENCE: Intended audience for my course: B.Tech./ B.E., M.Tech. / M.E., PhD students of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering.
