ABOUT THE COURSE:This course is designed for UG & PG students, research scholars and young scientists to introduce them to basics and applications of Microbial Biotechnology. The course starts with understanding the basic principles of microbial biotechnology, taxonomy and phylogeny of microbes. It discusses thoroughly the structure, life cycle and physiology of bacteria, viruses and eukaryotic microorganisms. It also deals with the key concepts of microbial genome structure, mechanisms of gene expression, regulation and effect on microbial metabolism. The course will deal with adaptation of microbes to diverse environmental conditions and practical aspects of controlling microorganisms. It also discusses the scope and prospect of microbial biotechnology in food, agriculture, environmental, energy, industrial and pharmaceutical applications.
