Overview
Community Engagement & Social Responsibility is 2 Credit Course (One Credit is for Theory and One Credit is for Field Work).India is a country of villages; therefore, rural development is the fundamental need of its progress. This course describes the various dimensions of rural life and its development in India. It advocates the importance of community development through self help groups. The course emphasises on the health and well-being of villagers. In addition to this, the concepts of literacy and employment have been elaborated in the context of rural culture and multi-dimensional development of rural India.This course highlights the contribution of social networking as a bridge between the various government schemes and the people of India. Sensitivity towards the environment and education, safety and energy, enthusiasm towards physical, mental and spiritual health along with simple living and high thinking have been explained for better understanding of the students. The course also outlines the benefits of community engagement through research and innovation. Students will be able to understand the various problems of any community and the possible ways to address the same.Since communities in India have their own knowledge derived from their ancestors and lived experiences, the students need to respect and learn from them so that they can further contribute for the betterment of other communities. Syllabus
1. Estimated work load: Online module classes of approximately 1 hour along with field work for 3 hours in a week is expected from the students.
2. Pre – requisites for the course – Students must be willing to learn and understand:a. The role of community engagement in national development.b. The responsibility of Indian citizens towards community development.
3. Scheduled assignments: Total 5 assignments will be given to students. One assignment after every two modules will be conducted at the end of each unit.
4. Week wise schedule:
Week 1 – Module 1 - Concept, Ethics and Spectrum of Community engagementWeek 2 – Module 2 – Local community, Rural culture and Practice of community engagementWeek 3 – Module 3 – Stages, Components and Principles of community development, Utility of public resources.Week 4 – Module 4 – Contributions of self-help groupsWeek 5 – Module 5 - Rural Development Programs and Rural institutionsWeek 6 – Module 6 - Local Administration and Community InvolvementWeek 7 – Module 7 – Social contribution of community networking, Various government schemes.Week 8 – Module 8 – Programmes of community engagement and their evaluation.Week 9 – Module 9 - Community Engaged Research and Ethics in Community Engaged ResearchWeek 10 – Module 10 - Rural Distress, Rural Poverty, Impact of COVID-19 on Migrant Laborers, Mitigation of Disaster
