ABOUT THE COURSE: The course entitled “Basics of Crop Breeding and Plant Biotechnology” will provide the basic background about the genetic basis of plant breeding. Some famous conventional breeding methodologies will be discussed with related aspects. Application of molecular markers in plant breeding will be the integral part of this course with thorough discussion on the marker analysis which will be useful for the students appearing in various competitive examinations. Furthermore, marker assisted breeding and transgenic technology will be discussed in the course covering basic as well as applied perspectives. In this particular course, several biotechnological approaches to screen transgenic plants will also be described along with the success stories of genetically modified organism (GMO).
