Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Medicine Grand Rounds - Team-Based Learning: Engineering Human Performance through Collaboration, 1/8/2021 8:00:00 AM - 1/8/2024 9:00:00 AM, Dr. McMahon discusses team building when the work is complex, the stakes are high and professional hierarchies exist, as they do in healthcare. He suggests that a lack of psychological safety, fixed mindsets and inconsistent team structure are linked to negative patient safety outcomes. He encourages us to focus on improvement instead of efficiency, and acknowledges the enormous potential of positive “teaming” where teams that learn together perform together.
