Studies the social problems of modern society, especially in the United States, in order to arrive at alternate methods of identification and measurement of social problems. An attempt to gain understanding by judging the probable results of proposed changes. Problems include deviant behavior, including crime and delinquency, alcoholism, family violence, deviant subcultures, and problems in industrial society, including the industrial workers, white collar workers, stress, and mental illness.
