Note: This course is delivered entirely in Arabic. The minimum recommended proficiency level is Intermediate High (ACTFL) or B2 (CEFR).
This course offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersections of language and media. You will see language in a new light as you discover its true nature as a life form brimming with ingenuity and potential, but tinted with bias and prejudice and susceptible of subjugation and control.
By developing an appreciation of the scope and interests of sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, critical discourse analysis, pragmatics, and translation, we will come to better understand the limits, the possibilities, and the dangers inherent to language use in the media. This course will help you develop your critical thinking skills as you consume or produce media language.
