Unconventional Reservoir Geomechanics

This session was quite informative. It contains the discussion about unconventional reservoirs, their properties and which kind of technologies are being used to drill unconventional reservoirs in order to obtain more production, as we know unconventional reservoirs differ from conventional regarding to permeability and other factors so special technologies are used to drill the reservoirs. Horizontal drilling and Multi-stage Hydraulic fracturing are discussed in this session. Horizontal drilling is done when reservoir is under some populated area. Hydraulic fracturing is done to enhance permeability as reservoirs has very low permeability typically 100 nanodarcy or even low. Low density liquids are injected into reservoirs specially water to propagate fractures, other proppants can be used. Additionally microseismic data is important to read what is happening inside reservoir and what kind of formation is there and what pressure can be setup for the fracturing fluid. Apart from that properties of rock were discussed like Mechanical, frictional, pore networks and pore fluids. Lastly, How the fracturing affects the environment was also discussed.
