Explore coarsening phenomena in aggregation-fragmentation models that form condensates in steady states during this 40-minute conference talk. Delve into the use of extreme value statistics to monitor local condensates as the coarsening length scale grows over time, focusing on the zero range process (ZRP) and conserved mass aggregation model (CMAM). Examine the scaling behavior of local condensate mass distribution, which reveals anomalously large fluctuations with mean and standard deviation proportional to the coarsening length. Discover the surprising finding that the system's state during coarsening is governed by a pre-asymptotic state with strongly fluctuating condensate mass, rather than the steady state. This presentation, part of the Thematic Programme on "Large Deviations, Extremes and Anomalous Transport in Non-equilibrium Systems" at the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematics and Physics, features research conducted in collaboration with Chandrashekar Iyer and Arghya Das.
