Implementing InfluxDB IOx Using Apache Arrow, DataFusion, and Rust

DSDSD - Dutch Seminar on Data Systems Design via YouTube

Overview

Explore a 49-minute conference talk from the Dutch Seminar on Data Systems Design that delves into building modern analytic database systems using cutting-edge technologies. Learn how deconstructed databases, high-performance interchange standards, and quality open source components enable the creation of advanced database systems without starting completely from scratch. Discover key technologies including Apache Arrow, Parquet, DataFusion, and Arrow Flight, and understand their implementation in InfluxData's new database system, InfluxDB IOx. Gain insights from Staff Engineer Andrew Lamb, an Apache Arrow PMC member with extensive experience ranging from startups like Vertica to large multinational corporations, as he demonstrates how these technologies work together to create efficient and well-connected database systems.

Syllabus

We hold bi-weekly talks on Fridays from PM to 5 PM CET for and by researchers and practitioners designing and implementing data systems. The objective is to establish a new forum for the Dutch Data Systems community to come together, foster collaborations between its members, and bring in high-quality international speakers. We would like to invite all researchers, especially also Ph.D. students, who are working on related topics to join the events. It is an excellent opportunity to receive feedback early on from researchers in your field.
