Tour around Britain and America

“Tour around Britain and America” is an important supplementary teaching resource for the “Comprehensive Courses of Basic English”. “Comprehensive Courses of Basic English” has been the core course of applied English since its opening in 2003. In 2015, this course fully implemented hybrid course construction, creating a flipped classroom teaching model based on online learning. The team teachers shot and recorded the "Culture Express" series of English micro-videos as pre- materials for flipped classrooms, which were well commented by students. Finally, the mooc curriculum that emphasizes both cultural transmission and functional practice is formed. After nearly a year of curriculum construction, we received good results. The target of the course is the students of applied English major in higher vocational colleges who have the basic knowledge of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, as well as the social personages who plan to study and travel in Britain and the United States. After more than 10 years of steady construction, this course has built up a teaching resource base with abundant materials. Teachers are stable and have a strong sense of teamwork. Teachers have solid professional knowledge and the courage to try new things in the course teaching reform. At present the two chapters of this course consist of nine units, a total of 30 themes containing ones that highlight the function of the acquisition of pragmatic functions and ones that emphasize cross-cultural cultivation of literacy and culture. The two main catogories involve nine units including arriving, learning, living, food shopping, daily life, social culture, popular culture, festival culture, campus culture and tourism culture, a total of 30 topics and  1 hour for each topic. In all, a total of 30 hours.
