1. Course Introduction

Nowadays, portrait photography has a huge market than ever. Taking pictures of individuals and families has formed a huge customer demand. It includes graduation, families, wedding and birth photography. As you can see, photo-shooting can take place in anywhere around the world and even the most conspicuous places such as the foyer and living room, which is the classic place for photoshoot in the early days.

The course instructor Wang Zhen summarizes what portraiture is and what constitutes a good portrait. The course has seven chapters, including Photography Equipment And Setting, Lighting Setup for Portrait, Composition Techniques for Portrait, Posing Techniques, Color and Tone, Lighting Setup for Product Photography, Party History in Photography. Throughout the course, you will complete a series of photography theory exercises and final exams that will be reviewed and evaluated by the teacher. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and know-how to succeed in portrait photography.

So that students can, not only master the shooting skills of portrait photography, but also be able to shoot excellent portrait photography works.

5. Learning Methods

This course covers knowledge points for portrait photography. Students should, not only study those basic knowledge points carefully, but also check their learning level of theoretical knowledge through after-class exercises and question Banks based on the assignment requirements of practice shooting. Through practice, students can better understand the theoretical content of portrait photography, shoot excellent portrait photography works.

7. Course Features

Through the knowledge points from different chapters such as photography equipment, light modeling, composition, pose, colour and tone, Lighting Setup for Product Photography, Party History in Photography, you will learn everything you need to know in order to take better portraits with any camera and studio equipment. At the end of the course you’ll be inspired with many ideas, that you’ll no longer need to worry about freezing up, or wondering what to do next with your model.


8. Course Content

Chapter 1 Photography Equipment And Setting

Key points of the course: A good portrait conveys information about an individual. By controlling lighting, posing and composition, photographers strive to capture the essence of their subjects while recording their personality and appearance. If you are familiar with professional equipment and portrait techniques, and work well with your subject, you can create a portrait that is pleasing to the eye and that your subject will love.

Chapter 2 Lighting Setup for Portrait

Key points of the course: We can also conduct lighting setup in Portrait photography. Lighting Setup is an important mean to shape the image of the subject. To understand the influence of the direction, height and nature of the light on the image of the subject, and the light ratio,  photographers must understand the application of the lamps used, master the lighting skills of various lighting schemes, be good at carefully controlling the light, and accurately metering and exposing.

Chapter 3 Composition Techniques for Portrait

Key points of the course: Understand the scene, determine the direction and height of the shooting, arrange the position of the subjects in the picture, learn the posture and gesture, and at the same time, use props to show the costumes and handle the background environment well.

Chapter 4 Posing Techniques

Key points of the course: Posing is very important in portrait photography. This chapter recognizes the body language of the characters and uses body proportions to show the curves of the characters.

Chapter 5 Color and Tone 

Key points of the course: Knowing how to use contrast will help you create eye-catching images. Contrast is a tool that photographers use to direct viewers’ attention to their subject.

Chapter 6 Lighting Setup for Product Photography

Key points of the course: Many of the products used in product photography are highly reflective. Jewellery, bottles, glass, and more are hard to photograph. Making ensuring the object shines out from the background and is bright enough is crucial in product studio lighting. You'll need to explore and take your time to figure out what works best for your product.

Chapter 7 Party History in Photography 

In this chapter, professor Wang Zhen have conducted in-depth cooperation with professor Zhao Bo. Fully explore the ideological and political elements in the course of Portrait Photography. We have 9 topics, to show the magnificent century-old history of the Party in the form of vivid photographic works. To achieve the organic combination of Party history learning and professional technology learning. In line with the century-old background of the Founding of the Party, It has actively responded to General Secretary Xi Jinping's call to carry out the study and education of Party history.The images, audio, and video materials used in the course are sourced from the internet and are for educational purposes only.
