Regarding to nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons, nuclear-powered equipment, nuclear medicine and so on, is nuclear science and technology a "devil" or an "angel"? Is nuclear radiation terrible? Is the nuclear power plant safe or not? Is there really "inexhaustible" energy? Is irradiated food safe? Can nuclear waste be disposed safely and properly? Can nuclear radiation be protected effectively?
As one of the greatest scientific and technological achievements of mankind in the 20th century, the original intention and mission of nuclear science and technology is to build “sword” for the country and benefit the people. Thus, what impact does it have on the national economy and the people's livelihood? How does it affect the current situation of the world? How is it related to our daily life? From the perspective of popular science, this course introduces the basic knowledge of nuclear science and technology and its application in human life, leads audience into the mysterious world of nuclear science and technology, discusses the social issues related to nuclear science and technology, and shows the past, the present and the future of nuclear science and technology. This course also strives to make more people increase their knowledge on nuclear science and technology, eliminate nuclear phobia and realize the truth that we are the beneficiaries of nuclear science and technology, not the bearers of risks.
