Meridians and Acupuncture Points

Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine via XuetangX

Overview

As the fundamental and core discipline of acupuncture and moxibustion science, “Meridian and Acupuncture Point” is a compulsory and introductory course for students pursuing degrees in acupuncture and Tuina therapy. The prerequisites for this subject encompass the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine and the anatomy of the human body. As the curriculum progresses, students delve into the techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion and their therapeutic applications. This course is intimately connected with clinical practice, serving as a crucial bridge between theoretical knowledge and its practical application.

The course is structured into two main components: an overview of meridians and collaterals, and an in-depth examination of individual meridians and acupoints. The overview component provides a comprehensive exposition of the foundational concepts concerning meridians and collateral channels, the structure and distribution of the meridian system, methods of locating acupoints, their categorization, functions, and the underlying principles of acupoint therapy. The individual discussions component delves into the running course and disorders of the meridians, as well as the location, indications, and manipulation techniques of acupoints. The study of “Meridians and Acupoints” equips you with a solid understanding of the pertinent concepts and specialized terminology  related to meridians and acupoints. You will be able to describe the running course and distribution of the meridians and accurately locate commonly used acupoints, and establish a strong foundation for further studies in clinical subjects such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and Tuina.
