Identity, Agency, Equality and Security in the Age of AI

via XuetangX

Overview

Course contents/objectives

Although artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming an integral part of the devices that people use today, from smart phones and wearables to smart household appliance and self-driving cars, there seems to be a widespread lack of basic understanding of AI systems. Such machines are not only transforming the everyday tasks and decisions of people, but also, raising important far-reaching questions for individuals, society, the economy, and governance. This class will attempt to examine some of these questions by introducing various implications of AI systems.

Over the course of the semester, students will
- gain basic knowledge and critical thinking skills to contemplate the wider implications of AI-powered systems;
- explore what it means to be human;
- examine key ethical issues from economic, social, political, cultural, and artistic perspectives;
- and develop their English language skills by engaging in course materials, lectures, and discussions in English.
