Good Oils for Better Life: Introduction to Science of Edible Oils and Essential Oils

Overview

This course is aim to teach the knowledge of oils in life to the audiences about delicious food, health, cosmetics, and environmental protection. It is a general education course for food and daily chemicals. 

The teaching content includes: Oil and delicious food —introduces the relationship between oil and the food color, aroma, taste and texture; Oil, beauty and health—introduces the relationship between edible oil and human health such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and the effect of various oils with its fatty acid composition in influencing health, and how to scientifically select oil for consumption; Oil and cosmetology— reveals the history of the extraction of essential oils from plant sources and its complementary relationship with plant oils, teaching on how to select a desirable combination of essential oils with plant oils followed by performing DIY homemade skin care and beauty products; Oil and environment— introduces the utilization of waste oil comprising of complex compositions as a potential resource, ways of transforming the waste oil into environmental friendly bio-diesel and bio-lubricant, and the methods of oil synthesis from insects. 

This course will be lectured by the lecturers from the “Oil Biorefinery and Nutrition” team of Jinan University, and internationally renowned experts in the field of oil and fat are also invited to participate in this course and also in interviews.
