Overview

Hello everybody! Welcome to the course English Pedagogy! This course is especially designed for English major students (Preservice Teacher Education and Professional Development) specialized in English language teaching. English Pedagogy aims at providing students with an understanding of aspects in which English language learning takes place in classrooms, and an introduction of approaches and methods in language teaching and the methodology used in teaching English as a Foreign Language. By examining different methodologies and contexts students will be able to make informed decision about language teaching methods and techniques in English language teaching. This course introduces and studies basic principles, approaches, and explanations of English language teaching. Included in this course will be a discussion of current topics in the English language teaching profession. The course will act as an introduction for those new to the field or as a review for more experienced teachers. This course will discuss all aspects of language instruction, covering practical topics such as assessment and how to teach pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, how to teach listening, speaking, reading and writing. At the end of this course, preservice teachers will be encouraged to reflect on their personal teaching and develop effective ways to become more reflective teachers.

In addition to the theoretical knowledge, you will have a series of practical teaching activities such as teaching observation, lesson plan preparation, and teaching praxis. So, this would be the perfect time for you to improve your practical teaching capacity by applying the theoretical knowledge we have learned in this course!

This course aims to help you transit from the stage of teaching theory to the teaching practice smoothly. Do enjoy the learning process, and hopefully, you will be able to master the knowledge of English Pedagogy at the end of the course!
