The purpose of this course is to cultivate students ' basic skills of reading English newspapers and improve their critical thinking ability in international politics. Through purposeful and systematic reading of English newspapers and periodicals at home and abroad, students gradually master the necessary background knowledge when reading English newspapers and periodicals, understand the history, characteristics, political positions and viewpoints of some major British and American newspapers and periodicals, and understand the common layout structure and arrangement methods of English newspapers and periodicals. Master the characteristics of English newspapers and periodicals, expand the vocabulary of politics, economy, education, art and other aspects, enrich their knowledge, so as to lay a good foundation for independent reading of various English newspapers and periodicals. Through the study of this course, students ' cultural vision is broadened and their ability to understand and analyze speculative problems is improved.
After studying this course, students can read a wide range of materials and have certain difficulties, such as current affairs comments, editorials, political comments, special reports and other articles in major newspapers and magazines in the United Kingdom and the United States ; can improve the ability to express ideas ; through the selective reading of British and American newspaper articles, we can learn fresh English, understand the world, obtain necessary information, and quickly improve English reading level.
