"Design of Steel Structures" is a major backbone course for civil engineering undergraduates. As a follow-up course of the subject "Theory of Steel Structures", the students should firstly understand the basic principles of steel structure analysis, master the design methods of all kinds of steel components and connections before learning this course. In fact, as a course closely combined with engineering practice, this course involves the design of several commonly used structural types, such as light-weight gabled frame building, general steel plant, large span roof structure, multi-story and high-rise steel structure, light-weight residential steel structure and other common steel structural systems, which is mainly to cultivate students' ability to engage in the design of various types of steel structures, and the ability to think and solve practical engineering problems.
