本课程选取英国文学历史上的重要作家作品，旨在帮助学生了解英国文学发展的基本脉络、文学流派，以丰富学生的英语语言文化背景知识，提高英语语言的感受力和表达能力，深刻理解中西文化异同，培养跨文化交际能力，提高综合人文素养。本课程以文学作品赏析为基础，以文学批评理论为工具，采用教师讲授分析作家作品、学生课外阅读与课内外研讨相结合的方式教学。鼓励学生阅读脍炙人口的英国文学名著，观看文学名著影片，并在线上线下对作家和作品进行积极的交流和讨论。课程除在线讲座外，鼓励学生采用研讨小组的方式对某一作家作品或某一专题进行阅读和研究。
