Data Governance

Overview

In this course, you will learn how to design a data governance solution that meets your company’s needs. First, you will learn about the different types of metadata and how to build a Metadata Management System, Enterprise Data Model, and Enterprise Data Catalog. Next, you will learn how to perform data profiling using various techniques including data quality dimensions, how to identify remediation options for data quality issues, and how to measure and monitor data quality using data quality scores, thresholds, dashboards, exceptions, and trend reports. Finally, you will learn the concepts of Master Data and golden record, different types of Master Data Management Architectures, as well as the golden record creation and master data governance processes.

Syllabus

Introduction to Data Governance

This lesson will give you an introduction to data governance and a high level overview of the course. You will be introduced to the importance of data governance, stakeholders and some tools you will be using in the course.

Metadata Management

In this lesson, you will learn principles of metadata management such as concepts of metadata, metadata management system and enterprise data models. We will learn how to build an enterprise data model and a metadata management system as well as the different people and processes involved in the effective setup and maintenance of a Metadata Management System.

Data Quality Management

This lesson covers all aspects and best practices for Data Quality Management. You will learn techniques for profiling data and identifying data quality issues, how to perform data cleansing and how to prevent data errors from occuring in the first place in the source systems. You will also learn how to set up targets, measure data quality and create data quality dashboards and trend reports.

Master Data Management

In this lesson we will learn about what is master data, master data management lifecycle and different types of master data management architectures. You will also learn how to define and create a golden record and how to manage reference data. We will also cover the role of data stewards which is key to the set up and maintenance of a master data management solution.

Data Governance at SneakerPark

In this project, you will help SneakerPark, an online shoe reseller, implementing data governance solutions using the knowledge you have learned from this course.
