ABOUT THE COURSE:This course aims to discuss the role of gender in the context of theatre and performance in India. It focuses on the concept of body and gender in performances and explores various literary trends and experiments that have affected and evolved theatre in India. The course refers to Natyashastra and Sanskrit dramaturgy and traces the history of theatre in India in the first week and gradually moves towards the various theoretical strands to understand different classical and folk forms of performances. Along with this, the course marks the expanding socio-cultural conception of gender and the continuously changing and developing modern theatre in India. This course will be an engaging exploration for students of literature and theatre enthusiasts who wish to delve into the rich tradition of theatre in India through a gender lens and review the society of different times through performances.INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG, PG students, research scholars and freelancers in media who are pursuing arts and literature programmes of studies or having interest in the field of arts and literature can take up.PREREQUISITES: Students who have completed Intermediate (12+)INDUSTRY SUPPORT: For academics only
