Overview

ABOUT THE COURSE:In this course, I intend to provide an overview of different aspects of Design Practice with an emphasis on Product Design. Beginning with the Design Concept Generation, I would discuss about the various axiomatic and algorithmic processes for this purpose. Subsequently, I’ll discuss about the issues related to material selection from both mechanical design as well as aesthetic perspectives. I’ll then give an overview of functional design starting from structures, to mechanisms and then sensors and actuators. The role of Biomimetic product design getting inspired from nature will be taken next. Finally, 6 different case studies will be taken up to illustrate the Design principles.INTENDED AUDIENCE: Postgraduate Students of Engineering Design and Advanced UG StudentsINDUSTRY SUPPORT: Automobile Company, Manufacturing Industry, Aerospace Industry
