The Advanced Microbiology is a 33 module course on advanced microbiology, which will equip the students with certain advanced aspects of basic microbiological techniques that include detailed classification of viruses, yeast and fungi. Production of antibiotics and their effect on the normal and pathogenic microflora of human body. Certain beneficial aspects of soil bacteria in increasing the soil fertility are also considered here. The most attractive feature of this module is that there are 15 modules of practical microbiology, which include preparation of culture media for different microbes, handling of different organisms, sterilization techniques, and isolation of microbes from nature, biomass measurement, and antibiotic sensitivity of microbes. Successful completion of this module will enable a student to perform practical hands on basic microbiological techniques that can be quite handy whenever he or she joins any research laboratory or even in industry. The 33 modules of this course will be delivered over a period of 9 weeks roughly covering the working days of a semester. For the first 7 weeks, 4 modules will be uploaded and a time slot will be reserved for live interaction with the students. During the last 2 weeks, 3 + 2 modules will be uploaded.
