Overview

Structured Query Language (SQL) is a standardized programming language used to manage relational databases and perform various operations on their data.

This is the first course of a two-part series to introduce relational database concepts and help you learn and apply foundational knowledge of SQL. This course will get you started with performing SQL access in a data science environment. The emphasis in this course is on hands-on and practical learning. You will work with real databases, real data science tools, and real-world data sets. You will create a database instance in the cloud. You will practice building and running SQL queries through a series of hands-on labs. No prior knowledge of databases, SQL, R, or programming is required.

Syllabus

Module One - Introduction to Databases

Introduction to fundamentals of databases, database history, and benefits of a database, as well as the concept of hierarchical database model and its importance.

Module Two - Entity Relationships, Cardinality, Normalization, and Schemas

Introduction to database design, including an ER Model to show how a database should work.

Week 3: Module Three -Project/Sandbox

Reviewing the ways to develop a database and learning to set up a database correctly, the practice of SQL skills through the project and sandbox.
