Paint at home with a child Fun & Easy

via Skillshare

Overview

In this class lesson you will learn how Fun & Easy it is to paint together at home with kids! This is a beginners class for all ages. You will learn to create beautiful flowers using an acrylic pour painting method that is really super easy to do!

You will learn how to pour paints onto a canvas in puddles inside one another and use only a straw and popsicle stick to create some really beautiful flowers.

NO paint brushes are used in this painting and no drawing. The popsicle stick is the only tool you use to make flower petals with and the straw is what you will use to shape your flowers  by blowing air out of it.

At the end we will show you how to add some special accent pieces of your choice. Whether you use seashell pieces or colorful gems or maybe even some glitter. Kids love spending time with you and this is one project you both will have a lot of fun doing!

Its really kind of magical!

Hope to see you in our class :)

  • Prep your work space and materials before you start
  • have all paints premixed and ready to use
  • have plenty of paper towel make sure to wear vinyl gloves for easy hand clean up

Try and use different color combinations that you like and you can try blowing out different shapes and sizes of flowers using your straw.

Please share your unique paintings in the project gallery and and any tips or tricks you may have learned!

SUPPLY LIST WITH LINKS

You can use any acrylic paints you may already have or I like to use Artists loft paints & supplies from Michaels Arts & Crafts or Dickblick blickrylic paints, some supplies can be purchased at the dollar store like plastic table cloth, paper towels, paper 2oz. dixie cups, plastic squirt bottles with lids for mixing paint , glitter or gems or at michaels arts & crafts & vinyl gloves, some links provided below:

  • Colored Acrylic Paint
  • White paint
  • Floetrol
  • 10x10 or 12x12 canvas

  • blue painters tape for taping back canvas wood bars only
  • popsicle or craft sticks
  • Vinyl gloves
  • Apron or old t-shirt (Optional)
  • straws

I do recommend putting a drop cloth on floor to protect floor from a spill. It’s usually not messy at all but just to be safe.

Colored Paint mixture:  ( For flowers)

  • (2) 2 oz. papers cups of floetrol
  • (1) 2 oz. papers cups full of colored acrylic paint
  • 1/2 of a 2 oz. paper cup of water

Mix & pour in a a solo plastic cup or in a 6 oz. squirt bottle and shake or stir.

* use this mixture formula for each color you do.

White paint mixture for background:

  • 1 cup floetrol
  • 1/2 cup white acrylic paint
  • 1/4 cup water
  • stir with popsicle stick or shake in a 10 oz.squirt bottle to mix

Pour & Mix in a red solo cup or 12 oz. squirt bottle to pour on white background

Directions: Use a 6oz. plastic squeeze squirt bottles for each colored paint and pour in floetrol, paint then water and cap off and shake well or stir if you use solo cups.

Lay down plastic table cloth on work surface and place canvas corners on top of 4 solo cups or 2oz. dixie cups inverted to lift canvas from table so that paint can drip down sides of canvas onto plastic table cloth or wax paper to be trashed when dry.
