Learn Gothic / Blackletter Calligraphy - Series 1: Minuscule

via Skillshare

Overview

Gothic Calligraphy is a timeless script and very easy to master. With discipline and practice, you will be able to create a dramatic and bold calligraphy piece. In this class I will be teaching Textura Quadrata Hand - minuscules, this hand is the most calligraphic form of Blackletter.

I've made this class for beginners who would like to learn a new skill as well as for experienced calligraphers who would like to enhance his/her knowledge in Gothic calligraphy.

This class will cover the basic history of the script, different types of mediums, materials, guidelines, spacings, and drills to familiarize the hand in creating solid and bold strokes. Lastly, we'll cover a step-by-step guide or a “ductus” to be followed on how to write each letter.

We will have a mini-test to see your current skill in gothic calligraphy, then we'll come back to this test by the end of the class to see and compare your progress with what you have learned.

We will also create a project by writing a quote or verse & writing it in Gothic hand -- a masterpiece that you can be proud of. The finished piece can become a wall art that you can frame for your home or you can send it as a gift to your loved ones.
