From elaborate Japanese kirigami to popular silhouette cuts of the 18th century and from the custom of decorative Jewish ketubot to the bright Mexican papel picado, the popularity paper cutting spans both time and culture. And it is as vibrant a medium for artists today as it was in 4th century China.
