Texturing Animal Eyes in Maya

via Pluralsight

Overview

Eyes are very important parts of any character, even an animal. Software required: Maya 2013.

Eyes are very important parts of any character, even an animal. And all animals have different types of eyes based on how they hunt, where they live, and other factors. In order to create more realistic cg animals, it's important to give the animals relatively realistic eye textures based on what type of animal they are. In this Maya tutorial, we will talk about some of the various eye types and the ways in which they differ from one another. We'll talk about pupil shape, the iris shape, and the iris color. We'll learn several ways of quickly recreating some of the looks we see in nature with a combination of texture maps and procedural nodes. From lions and eagles, to house cats and frogs, we'll cover a variety of animals and looks. In the end, you'll have a much better idea of the types of eyes you may need to create when building your animals, and you'll be familiar with multiple ways of accomplishing that work in Maya. Software required: Maya 2013.
