These resources can be used as refreshers for experienced personnel or as an introduction to the topic for everyone else. Most of the materials are available in English and French, and can be downloaded for offline use. Versions in Lingala and Swahili are also available.

Overview: This course offers decision-makers and frontline responders an overview of Ebola disease and access to e-PROTECT training, intended to help protect yourself and members of your team from contracting Ebola and prevent further transmission of the disease. These resources can be used as refreshers for experienced personnel or as an introduction to the topic for everyone else. Most of the materials are available in English and French, and can be downloaded for offline use. A version in Lingala is also available.

Learning objectives: By the end of this course, participants should be able to understand:

  • the fundamental principles of Ebola disease; and
  • how to protect themselves and others from contracting the disease when responding to an outbreak.

Course duration: Approximately 3 hours.

Certificates: No certificate available for this course - a certificate will be issued to those that complete the e-PROTECT training.

Course contents

  • Introduction to Ebola (English/Swahili):

    This session explains basic principles of Ebola disease and ways to protect yourself and others. By the end of this lecture, you should be able to: describe Ebola disease (EBOD) and how it is transmitted, recall basic measures to prevent EBOD and list key public health concerns during an Ebola outbreak.
  • e-PROTECT: Occupational health and safety training:

    All personnel responding to Ebola outbreaks are expected to complete a short health and safety training. It will help you to protect yourself and your team members, and prevent further spread of Ebola.
  • Ebola: GO 2.0:

    All personnel responding to Ebola outbreaks need to have basic knowledge and skills in order to mount an effective response. The GO training package was developed for WHO deployees so they can work safely and effectively as part of the teams bringing outbreaks under control. The learning package consists of 7 modules, which include video lectures and downloadable presentations that have been updated with the latest information and developments. It begins with an introduction to Ebola disease before moving to the response strategy and essential information related to working for WHO. The GO materials are designed to complement the ePROTECT training.
  • Clinical management of Ebola disease:

    This training course provides clinicians with access to downloadable presentations and posters to facilitate their management of Ebola disease.
  • Building trust and engaging communities for the Ebola disease outbreak :

    This section offers resources on how to build trust and engage communities as part of an Ebola response.
  • Resources: Knowledge pack:

    Key technical Ebola documents on: strategy and coordination; surveillance, contact tracing and laboratory; case management and infection prevention and control; vaccines; community engagement, social mobilization and communication; therapeutics; safe and dignified burials; travel and points of entry; and training.
