Health workers involved in deployment and implementation of COVID-19 vaccination require vaccine-specific knowledge to ensure safe and efficient vaccine delivery. This training provides key information about COVID-19 vaccines through short instructional videos, vaccine explainers, job aids, topic briefings, and downloadable presentations. It builds on the COVID-19 vaccination training for health workers and the Orientation to National Deployment and Vaccination Planning for COVID-19.

Please note that further videos and resources concerning other vaccines will be added as they receive emergency use listing (EUL) or prequalification.

Overview: As of March 2021, several COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized or approved for human use by stringent regulatory authorities and WHO and are now being deployed by countries. Understanding different products’ characteristics is crucial for the success of vaccination efforts. This course provides vaccine-specific information on COVID-19 vaccines that were listed for emergency use. It is intended to be used by vaccinators, clinicians, logisticians, and other focal points involved in COVID-19 vaccination.

Please note that further videos and resources concerning other vaccines will be added as they receive emergency use listing (EUL) or prequalification.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Handle, prepare, and administer the COVID-19 vaccine products presented in the course;
  • Describe the vaccine-specific information including presentation and schedule, administration and safety, storage, handling, labelling and packaging;
  • Recognize and respond to anaphylaxis.

Course duration: Approximately 10 minutes.

Course contents

  • Preparing the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty Tozinameran COVID-19 vaccine:

    This module covers the handling, thawing, and preparation of the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty Tozinameran COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Preparing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (mRNA-1273):

    In this video, we will show you how to store, thaw, and administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. We will also explain how it differs from other vaccines you may administer.
  • Recognizing Anaphylaxis vs. Immunization Stress-Related Response:

    In this video, we will show you how to recognize anaphylaxis, and how to tell the difference between anaphylaxis and an immunization stress-related response, so you are able to respond appropriately.
  • Identifying and Managing Anaphylaxis:

    In this video, we will show you how to prepare for an anaphylactic reaction; how to identify the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis; and how to treat a patient who is having a severe allergic reaction.
  • Administering the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine:

    In this video, we will show you how to store and administer the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Preparing and Storing the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen:

    In this video, we will show you how to store, thaw, and administer the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen.
  • Administering the BIBP/Sinopharm, and the Coronavac/Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines:

    In this video, we will show you how to store and administer the BIBP/Sinopharm, and the Coronavac/Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines.
